Breathing Underwater
Breathing Underwater
Alex Finn’s book, Breathing Underwater, is written for high school students. As a book often assigned to high school students, prevention educators can use this to talk to students about the dynamics of dating violence.
The story is written from a young man’s point of view. The young man is court-ordered to a batterer intervention group after physically assaulting his girlfriend. The book offers an opportunity to discuss example of the cycle of violence, why women stay in abusive relationships, and self-esteem issues of young women who get involved with “the wrong guy.”
