Overview of CPEDV

The California Partnership to End Domestic Violence (CPEDV) is a coalition representing close to 150 organizations that respond to the needs and interests of battered women and their children. As the sole statewide voice for victims of family violence, CPEDV works with policy makers, advocacy organizations, civil and criminal justice professionals, child protective service workers, law enforcement officials and others to provide aid to domestic violence victims. September 30, 2006, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed our priority bill AB 2084, thus clarifying the language and protecting the funding for domestic violence shelters.

Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancements Through Leadership and Alliances Program (DELTA)

In 2003, CPEDV was one of 14 state domestic violence coalitions awarded funding by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancements Through Leadership and Alliances Program (DELTA). The project is designed to build capacity and infrastructure for intimate partner violence (IPV) prevention on the local, state and national levels. Specifically, the CDC has asked the fourteen state domestic violence coalitions to create a report on IPV in their states and to develop a strategic plan that addresses IPV prevention. Work on these products will take place over the next two and a half years with CDC DELTA Program funding and facilitated by CPEDV Prevention Education Coordinator in collaboration with our contracted statewide Empowerment Evaluator.

In addition, CPEDV has been awarded funding by the CDC to distribute across the state through Coordinated Community Response (CCR) Teams in collaboration local domestic violence shelters and programs. Over the past two-and-a-half years CPEDV has provided funds for a staff position to seven California CCRs; The local staff person is accountable for working in collaboration with the CPEDV Prevention Education Coordinator on bringing forth a comprehensive primary prevention plan for implementation on the local level.

As the DELTA Program moves into its second funding cycle, we have formed California Intimate Partner Violence Prevention Consortium to assist with the development of a strategic plan for intimate partner prevention in California.

Currently, CPEDV provides technical assistance and training to Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancement and Leadership Through Alliances (DELTA) program subcontractors on topics such as community organization and mobilization; sustainability; logic model development; teen dating violence; prevention, including primary prevention; collaboration math; pre/post testing concepts; the public health approach to domestic violence prevention; and the social ecological model. Presentations, critical discussions, conference calls, web conferences, face-to-face meetings, site visits, phone calls, and e-mail communication are the mediums used to conduct such training and assistance.
